PARTICIPATION TRENDS AND NEW CHALLENGES OF VOLUNTEERING (2011)



To respond to new challenges and trends for the future in the field of volunteering. This was one of the main objectives of the seminar 'Participation trends' and new challenges of volunteering Joaquín Roncal of Zaragoza held on 30 September 2011 at the Center. This meeting, attended by about 100 people, was organized by the Aragonese volunteer coordinator - with the collaboration of the General Directorate for citizen participation, external action and cooperation of the Government of Aragon - which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. The event was opened by the Chief of service of citizen participation, Fernando López; and the Coordinator of volunteer of the Hospital San Juan de Dios de Zaragoza, Marga Perez.

 

DSC_0052About a hundred people participated in the seminar "Participation trends" and new challenges of volunteerism held in the Centro Joaquín Roncal of Zaragoza. One of the main objectives of this meeting, organized by the Aragonese volunteer coordinator, was to respond to new challenges and trends for the future in the field of volunteering.

 

The Chief of service of citizen participation, Fernando López; and the Coordinator of volunteer of the Hospital San Juan de Dios de Zaragoza, Marga Perez, were responsible for inaugurating this day which coincided with the Declaration of 2011 as AEuropean of the volunteer activities to foster active citizenship.

 

The seminar started with an exhibition of new trend analysis that were presented the results of the assessment carried out by the platform of the volunteering of Spain reflected on the State strategy of volunteering. Give this presentation was the Managing Director of the platform of the volunteering of Spain, Mar Amate. During his presentation he highlighted that "volunteerism is Social participation. All private and public institutions recognize its importance". Also, Amate, took a tour of the current situation in this matter and acknowledged that "there are new trends such as the cybervolunteerism or volunteering to distance, but they continue to need more resources to continue working and improving the quality of programmes". The Managing Director of the platform of the volunteering of Spain, ended his lecture explaining that there are four fundamental challenges for the development of the volunteer: increase the capacity of social transformation of volunteering; expand the margins of sustainability of institutions and the sector as a whole; improve the knowledge of volunteering; and improve the management of the cycle of volunteerism.

 

In this context, one of the of the Aragonese volunteer coordinator, María Martínez presented a study between the Aragonese entities: forms of participation of the volunteers: an analysis of its evolution and trends. According to Martinez, the current context of volunteerism is "difficult, troubling and uncertain" and said that the main objectives of this 2011 focused on recognizing new forms and actions of volunteers and organizations adapt to them. In addition, María Martínez said that in the study the entities stated that "volunteers view counts for a lot with a view to possible improvements of the institution".

 

In addition, the second part of the seminar hosted different experiences on this matter. Marta Reina, the Hazloposible Foundation, spoke of virtual volunteering and corporate volunteerism; Isabel Ruiz and safe sea, Caritas Diocesana of Zaragoza, unveiled professional volunteers and formed; and Fernando del Rosario, the Working Group of the Plan of action of the Confederation of the Third Sector of Social Action; and Javier Escartín, technical advisor for the citizen participation Department, external action and cooperation of the Government of Aragon, analyzed the political impact of these aspects.

 

In the space of conclusions all practical keys is collected to improve the action of the platforms to new trends.
