COMMUNITY MEDIATION IN UTEBO (2009)



The zaragozan town of Utebo pioneer has developed during 2009 a project in Aragon: space of coexistence and mediation; to proposed and funded by the direction General of participation citizen of the Government of Aragon. Utebo_mediacion1 Space of coexistence and mediation is a project of community mediation, which aims to promote citizen participation in the positive and peaceful management of conflicts and in the improvement of local cohabitation. Since May 2009, began in the zaragozan town of Utebo this betting pioneer in Aragon which has the support of the City Council, its inhabitants and social entities. In addition, the Government of Aragon, through the General Directorate of citizen participation, has supported and financed the project.

 

The Cefymed Association, Association committed to the dissemination of the culture of peace and mediation in the autonomous community of Aragon, has been who has designed and coordinated the work. In the direct management of the service have been involved two mediators with university training in conflict resolution and mediation, Charo bouquet and Pedro Caurín.

 

Mediation in the EU wants to introduce alternative, creative approaches and positive and respectful visions between cultures, groups and neighbors. In this way, it becomes a useful tool of prevention and change that favors active and participatory democracy.

MEDIATING IN THE CONFLICT

 

Cefymed noted that there is a gap in the treatment and management of the conflict at the horizontal level. The intervention has focused on three areas of action:

 

1. awareness: aimed at the population in general, and with the aim of disseminating the culture of dialogue and encourage participation and cooperation as positive and constructive ways to transform conflicts and achieve a peaceful coexistence.

 

2. training: aimed primarily at stakeholders, taking into account that they are already existing and identified figures between citizenship and are professionals in early intervention.

 

3. direct intervention: conflict transformation Centre. Intended to serve the residents of the municipality with conflicts of everyday life, which in turn generate difficulty in communication and neighbourhood relationship. Interventions have been counselling or mediation when all parties concerned participated voluntarily in the process.
